Wedgewood was started by Gilly Walters, in the family kitchen in 1999. Gilly and Taffy had to sell the family farm due to illness and so to make ends meet they hosted music concerts at home. It was at one of these evenings that Gilly first made her nougat and was inspired by happy guests to start selling it at the local farmers markets.
The business grew by word of mouth and soon production spilled out from the family kitchen in to the double garage. Shortly Gilly’s three sons and daughters-in-law joined the business and in 2006, and moved in to a state of the art factory in the KZN Midlands.
“Quality is at the heart of any sustainable business and we are passionate about it. Our nougat is handmade using only the finest ingredients. We use no preservatives, no artificial colours or flavours – just good honest food made the old fashioned way. We hand crack the best fresh farm eggs, select only the highest grade local honey directly from the beekeeper and use the highest quality nuts roasted to perfection.”
